How do i grow big juicy tomatos?

I have a tomato plant that has a few yellow flowers on it already, how can i make sure my tomatos are juicy and big?

First off, It's important to grow the right kind. There are numerous variaties of tomatoes and some are much larger than others. If you're shooting for size, the classic "Beefsteak" variety is a good one.



If you're uncertain of your variety, you're going to end up with a suprise. It may only be a cherry tomato, or it may be a modest sized Early Girl. It's hard to say.



Just make sure that your 'maters have adequate nitrogen (the leaves should be thick and dark green, not yellowish) sunlight, and water. It's good to keep in mind also, that with plants you can have too much of a good thing.

Reply:If it's just now flowering, you probably won't have big tomatoes. Ours produced by now and I've pulled up the plants. You need to plant them Good Friday.
Reply:Some fertilizer (there are some fertilizers made especially for tomato plants), full sunshine, and never let the plant get dry enough to wilt. If it ever wilts, watering may bring it back, but it will never regain full vigor. By the way, the yellow flowers may not "set fruit" if overnight temperatures where you are are too high.

Reply:As mentioned, you need to be sure the variety you choose is a large fruit producers, like Beefsteak.



But before you get that far, you need to have properly prepared soil. In the fall, chop fallen leaves into your soil, and add manure or compost and cover with straw for the winter. In the spring, start your seeds in a greenhouse or in your kitchen window about 2 months before the last frost. About a week before you intend to plant your seedling, cover the outdoor area with black plastic (a garbage bag will work) to help heat the soil. You will probably want to either stake or put cages around the plants for support.



Vege plants like about an inch of rain per week. Get a cheap rain gauge at Walmart etc. and monitor rainfall, especially when it's over 80 degrees. Miracle Gro fertilizer mixed into the water is also helpful (follow package directions). When the flowers start coming out on the plants, be sure to keep the soil moist throughout the harvest season.



Check for pests regularly and spray with a dishsoap solution if you find some (1:5 dish soap to water). Check for brown spots on the leaves, especially after a long stretch of rain- apply Fungicide if you see this happening.



Do not harvest the tomatoes until they come off the plant freely with a light tug. Good luck!

Reply:You can use a a plant grower for vegies/fruits, but just be patient and let them grow. The plant food will help..
Reply:I use (and I know it sounds gross) fish emulsion. You can buy it at any home buliders store or on your everyday watering use some of the water from you fish tank.
Reply:For starters, you need a tomato plant that grows big tomatos. You won't get big ones if you are growing cherry or Roma tomatos.



Good soil, water and lots of sun are key.
Reply:I planted my tomatoes back on May 30th..and I give em good nutrition..plenty of water..but not too much overwatering..I also make sure that when they grow along the stake I adjust them as they grow up along the stake..that way flowers are always visible as the spring up on the plant and the sun and the air gets to em daily and the tomatoes that are already sprung..don't hit the ground so that they still continue to grow..MiracleGro every 2 weeks is good for my plants
Reply:Fertilize With Miracle Grow and you know it should be planted with soil mixed with cow maneur. Don't over water and watch out for tomato horn worms. They like to eat leaves.
