I have found small piles of seeds in each room of my house.?

I have found 5 small piles of sun flower and small yellow seeds (like miniature popocorn seeds) in different rooms of my house. Each pile consists of about 30-40 seeds. They are not very well hidden, but are found behind or under something. We have yet to find a second pile in any one room. Weird.

Im thinking its a chipmunk... or Im living in the next M Knight Shamaylan movie!

I have found small piles of seeds in each room of my house.?
Probably a rodent of some type, though chipmunks are not normally in homes, you are describing their habit of storing seeds from about mid July through the fall until they hibernate in their burrows. I would use a Hav-A-Heart type cage trap to remove it. Try placing an apple in the cage, and if caught, then dispose of it as you see fit. Look for any holes it may be using to gain access to your house from the outside where it is gathering the seeds. If you find it, place the trap near the entrance. If you can't locate it, put the trap where you located it's last stockpile of seeds.

Reply:I'd set up a hidden camera in the rooms where the seeds "pop up", ASAP! You'll find out what's going on for sure.

Help with two gardinia plants planted in Studio City, CA (So Calif)?

They are in full sun except from 8a- nightfall; they were planted about 6 months ago; the leaves are turning yellow and brown; the flowers are dying when young and unopened. What kind of fertilizer? how often? Are they okay in full sun here?

Help with two gardinia plants planted in Studio City, CA (So Calif)?
Hey neighbor!

I'm here in LA too :-).

Gardenia's need shade, but if yours are getting only early morning sun(before 8am then they should be fine).I'm not sure if you meant 8pm or am???. The heat can also effect them. It will cause them to yellow and not flower very well. I have two of them and one gets a little more sun than the other and it always looks sad. I'm waiting for the banana trees nearby to fill in for the shade. Anyway, make sure they are getting enough water. In the heat that we are going to have this weekend they should be watered daily in the early morning hours. If they do get daytime sun then you might want to either plant something nearby that can give them shade or move them to a shady location. For a fertilizer you can go with the basic, Miracle grow all purpose, then it will help all of your plants. You can also go with a tropical fertilizer. I use Hibiscus food on all of my tropicals and they love it. If after the feeding they dont improve then you may have an insect which can then be taken care of with an insecticidle soap.

Good Luck

Help with flowers and dress?

okay im doing the franipanni flowers thing so the flowers will be pink and yellow so i was wondering what color should i make the bridesmaids dresses?? it will be summer in Australia when my wedding comes around.

Help with flowers and dress?
A floral white, pink, and yellow would be cute and the material could be light and cool. If you wanted a solid color, I vote yellow. It's so light and summery. (I love those flowers by the way)
Reply:It depends if you want to add another colour or not. Pink and/or yellow dresses would look nice. You could do lovely green or teal or purple dresses too - that would also be good. Or if you wanted to make the flowers the main focus (apart from you of course!) you could have the girls in simple white dresses - now that would look stunning (as long as you made sure your dress still stood out!)You could maybe add a pink and/or yellow sash to the white dresses if you liked that idea?

My wedding is 6 weeks away and I still do not have my flowers. My colors are sage and baby pink, with a hint of yellow. What types of flowers should I use to have a bouquet that is suttle, yet very elegant? Thanks so much for all your opinions and answers!!!

PS. I am only having a bouquet for me and I need a bout. idea for the hubby....thanks!!

I still don't have my flowers...?
Calla Lilies are beautiful but expensive (especially if you're talking bridesmaids bouquets, corsages and boutonnieres). If your colors are fairly springy, perhaps you should ask the florist to show you some 'wildflower' bouquets? They, of course, won't be wildflowers but things like lilacs, peonies, dalias, lisianthus, tulips, alstromeria, hydrangea, even miniature gerberas come in all kinds of colors and could easily compliment your palette! Ultimately though, you should seek out a florist and talk with them about what's in your price range. Beware of peonies! We've been getting peonies in for 2 weddings now and they've barely opened in two weeks. I doubt florists elsewhere are having much luck atm (though it could just be our wholesaler)! They still look nice and smell wonderful, though. Good luck!

    Bridesmaids flowers?????

My weddding is 5-12-07.my bridesmaids are wearing(I have 7)4 of the bridesmaids are wearing Palm Beach Coral and the other 3 are wearing canary(light orange and yellow)What kind of flowers should they carry.I have some ideas but it never hurts to get more info. Thanks

    Bridesmaids flowers?????
Gerber Daisies will be perfect in orange and pink. Very hip, bright and fun.

If you want a more toned down look- try an interesting contrast of medium. Like feathery white peonies w/ curly willow and folded banana leaves.

    Hope this helps!
Reply:Have them wear whatever color YOU are wearing (white/ivory?) with accents of the other colors. Have your bouquet done in the colors of their gowns accented in the color of your gown. If there are ribbon wraps, stick to white or ivory- or whatever color gown you are wearing or it will look like a candy shoppe.

    It will be beautiful!
Reply:Since you have them wearing two different colors, maybe it would be nice to have the flowers contrasting each dress. Like have the girls wearing coral have canary flowers and vice versa. Or you could pick a nice neutral flower for both to carry - something white.
Reply:Oh, honey, do NOT pick your flowers before going to the florist, unless it really, really matters that they are carrying a specific flower.

The florist can show you tons of flowers that you've never even heard of that will look very nice with the colors of your bridal party. S/He is a professional and will have tons of fabulous ideas that can make your flowers very unique.

But if you walk in and say "I want this, this, and this, and do it this way," then that's exactly what you'll get. And you'll miss out on all those other possiblities, many of which could be much cheaper because they are in season.
Reply:have each bridesmaid carry a single rose in the opposite color they are wearing with both color of ribbons hanging from it. that would be my suggestion and be what i would do.
Reply:take a piece of fabric from each color your accenting and take it to the florist and they can match it and put it into the flowers.. My wedding was rainbow.
Reply:Talk to a local florist. They may be able to tell you some flower that are similar in color to your bridesmaid dresses. Or white roses would work too.
    Reply:Lilies..
Reply:the onces with orange mix white and orange roses together and with the yellow, yellow and white roses....Good Luck!
Reply:Lilly's are really gorgeous in bouquets. I would do the light pink/ white Lilly's with peach roses. It would be beautiful and Lilly's are not very expensive:) Good Luck and Congratulations:)

Reply:Check out this site for help, also you could ask the owner, she knows alot about what would look perfect. http://www.geocities.com/blondy600/down2...
Reply:Don't listen to the person who said don't pick your flowers before going to a florist. If you do that more and likely they will butter you up into getting some very expensive flower that deep down in your heart It is really not what you want. The worst thing ever is to go to a vendor and not have ideas to give them. Since your wedding is in the mid spring to mid summer, go with flowers that are in bloom. They will be cheaper and will last longer. Roses are available all year round and come in a variety of colors including yellow (papillon rose), orange (sensation rose), and even coral (barcarola rose). They can also be dyed the color that you prefer. Snap dragons come in yellow and are beautiful. Cream perfection tulips are almost like a butter like in yellow and can be quite beautiful. You can get alot of good tips in wedding books and magazines and the good old internet.

Tomato plant flower are dying. Help!!!?

My tomato plants are doing well when it come to growing tall. but when the yellow flowers start to change to tomatos they die and fall off. Does anyone know what might be happening? Thanks.

Tomato plant flower are dying. Help!!!?
    Hello

This is quite an unfortunate thing to happen to your tomatoe's although it is curable. What you have is blossom set, which causes the flowers to look beautiful but fall and die just before fertilization or just after preventing fruit. You need to buy a blossem set spray and spray the plant down with it as soon as possible. The longer you wait the more blossoms will fall and the lesser amount of fruit you will get. Goodluck.

    Greenman
Reply:may well need magnesium --try epsom salts
    Reply:There are several reasons why your tomatoes are failing to set fruit;

    1) Excessive Nitrogen--Anything that creates lush vine conditions usually discourages bloom set. The most common 'culprit' is excessive fertilization...especially with nitrogen fertilization. (a 5-10-10 fertilizer applied once a moth is sufficient)

    2) Dry Windy Conditions--You may need to establish windbreaks

    3) Extreme Fluctuations in Temperatures-- If night temperatures fall below 55 or rise above 75 or if the day temps are above 90, the pollen becomes tacky and non-viable. Pollination cannot occur. If the bloom isn't pollinated, the bloom dies and falls off.

    Other Suggestions;

Water the plants deeply once a week.

Apply a mulch around the base of the plants to maintain constant soil moisture levels.

Some recommend attempting hand-pollination with an artist brush or a gentle shaking of the plant/cage/support prior to the hottest part of the day will also help.

Fruit set will resume when temperatures moderate.

Hoplarchus psittacus? A bit of a challenge but not overly aggressive, grow to about the size of an Oscar (14"+)

Festivums? More familiar to people but not often stocked in stores. Easy going for a cichlid and the males in good condition develop a turquoise sheen.

Some of the eartheaters? Geophagus or Satanoperca sp.

If you want easier to sell offspring, Altum angels.

You will of course need at least one extra grow out tank.

The problem with breeding less common species is finding a market for the young fish.

Why do my plants keep dying on me?

    what should i do?

Why do my plants keep dying on me?
Leaves turning yellow is a 'sure sign' of overwatering.

Make sure you have plenty of root room in the pot and only water once a week by placing your plants in the shower for a few minutes and let all the water drain.

One more thing: some of my plants are doing much better without direct sunlight. for example , my spider plant used to get those little burnt tips ..but not anymore.

I accidentally washed my white bikini w/ other whites and it turned yellow!!?

Can I get it back to white? It also has colored embroidered flowers on it so I am afraid to bleach it.

I accidentally washed my white bikini w/ other whites and it turned yellow!!?
Try color safe bleach like Clorox 2
Reply:That's kinda funny. Not for you though, because now other people might think you soiled it.

Anyway, you can bleach it without affecting the flowers if the embroidered material is synthetic. If it's cotton or something, which it most likely is not, since it's a swimsuit and needs to hold up to chlorine, then the bleach will affect them. But more than likely, you'll be ok bleaching it.

Think of it this way: if you feel it's already ruined, then there's no loss if you bleach it and something goes wrong.

    Good luck anyway.
Reply:It's not an itsy-bitsy, teeny-weenie, yellow polka-dotted pair is it...?

    it works.

    happened to me too!
Reply:If, your other whites were bleached, then most likely there is nothing that you can do. When you bleach synthetics they tend to yellow and it is permanent (because you damage the fibers). However, if your did not bleach the load, you may be able to use a detergent meant to prevent colors from fading or add a cup of the following to your laundry: Clorox II non bleach alternative, vinegar, oxyclean, or peroxide and soak the suit.

    Good luck.
Reply:First: is it a solid yellow?? or blotchy??? if it is solid, leave it be... Its prolly really cute that way.........

if its not, or if its blotchy, try bleaching it. Try using Clorox something ( i cant remember-- try google to find the exact name) It bleaches what needs to be bleached, but keeps purposely colored parts fresh and vibrant!

Reply:Please do not use bleach, as has been suggested. If your item has lycra/spandex listed on the care label, you could ruin it, as bleach yellows spandex. You could try bluing, (I've never used it) but be very careful, it is a type of dye.

You can also try adding some Cascade dishwasher soap to the wash and let it soak for at least a half an hour. I've always used the granule type so I'm not sure if there's a difference between the gel and granules. 20 Mule Borax might also work. Hope these help.

Every couple of hours kinda stir it around. I got 10 year old formula stains out of a baby outfit doing this...although it took soaking it for about 4-5 days, it all came out. Good luck!
Reply:i was going to suggest using "yellow out" but it might discolor your flowers...it will however get the yellowish color out of your bikini. If the bleach or oxyclean doesn't do it, try this.

  • Weed n Feed is killing parts of my grass! Why?

I have an established yet patchy fescue lawn in my front yard. This spring I put Naturalime on it and seeded with a Tall Fescue variety all over to fill in the holes. It was growing well and at about 2 inches tall. 5 days ago I put Weed n Feed on it to kill a large crop of round leaved yellow flower plants. Not only did it kill those plants (sorta) but it COMPLETELY killed all the new grass and even some of the old. Now my lawn looks worse than when I started!

What gives?? Where do I go from here?

Weed n Feed is killing parts of my grass! Why?
Without knowing what weed %26amp; feed you used, its hard to tell you exactly what went wrong. I can tell you that applying a broadleaf herbicide when the temperatures are above 85 degrees F can damage some established turf. Was this the case? Newly seeded turf is also suseptable to some broadleaf herbicides until established. Certainly fertilizing this early after reseeding didn't help. Was the weed %26amp; feed application at the appropriate rate? Was the turf drought stressed at the time of the application? Both of these conditions can burn established and newly seeded turf. The best information that I can give you is to please read the label of your weed %26amp; feed. This will tell you if this product is labeled for use on tall fescue, if there is a problem with this product on newly seeded lawns and if there is a temperature limit when applying to certain turfs. The label will be your best source of information at this point.

Where do you go next? Water properly %26amp; determine if the lawn is going to recover. If not, then reseed %26amp; start again. Good luck.
Reply:As a rule weedkillers and fertilisers of any description are to be avoided on newly seeded areas and new grass. I am sure that the product would have carried such information on the packet/bottle. Re-seed after a few months.
Reply:Well, now you can spray weed killer on the weeds that remain, then seed with new grass after the weeds are gone. Don't put anything on the seeded area for a few weeks, and water it well every other day. After a few weeks, when the grass is starting to grow, put fertilizer on it (not weed and feed as this may harm young grass).

i put my tomatoes in the ground from the pot about amonth ago , I have 4 plants total well 2 grew really tall about 3 feet but still no tomatoes , it will bloom yellow flowers but still no tomatoes , the other 2 didnt grow hardly any they are about 1 foot tall each but i have a small tomatoe on each .Why am i growing tomatoes on the little ones but not the big ones ?

    Tomatoes arent doing so well?
Are they getting enough sun shine? Tomatoes love sun. My grandmother used to beat her tomatoes with a broom handle around the bottom of the plant and a little on top. Sounds bizarre, I know, but it works. Rough 'em up a bit and make sure to keep them watered. You can also buy some RED plastic to put underneath each plant. It helps to reflect the sun back onto the plant. The tall plants sound as though you have watered them too much and now they are "leggy" instead of bushy. Back off on the water for a bit and feed them some tomato food.

Can anyone tell me what kind of Clematis I have??

I bought it last summer late and it only grew about 2 inchs. This summer however it has taken over the arbor (yeah!) but it's odd. Lots and lots of green and little tiny purple flowers with yellow centers and I notice there are little green looking 'berries' growing on it. I remember the package showing me a pink verigated large headed Clematis (Nelly Moser ) and so far this looks nothing like it. The leaves are the same as my other Clematis (also Nelly Mosers) but the flowers on this one....weird. I can't place what they are. They seem to be hanging kind of like lily of the valley or bluebells do. They were grown from a bulb start, not seed. Anyhelp on the ID would be great!! Thanks!!

Can anyone tell me what kind of Clematis I have??
Not sure, but there's always a possibility that your Nelly Moser somehow got cross-pollinated with another flower nearby. Not sure what you mean by these plants growing from a bulb start, Clematis grows from seeds. Try this link to help identify your plants:

How do you care for indoor tulips?

i recently purchased some potted tulips from trader joe's. i transplanted them into a larger pot about a week ago. they are by a window, but not in direct light. they get water three times a week. however, the leaves are turning yellow at the ends. the flowers, which are pink, are starting to look purple \around the edges. what am i doing wrong?

How do you care for indoor tulips?
Tulip flowers only last a couple weeks. Transplanting something when it's in flower is really stressful - I'd would say that's part of the problem - if it weren't a tulip - which isn't going to last anyway.

You can give it some fertilizer in the water now and then, but really not much water - let the soil go a bit dry in between. When the threat of frost passes, you can plant the bulbs directly in the ground. Put some bulb fertilizer in the hole before you plant - that's really all it will need. It may or may not come up and flower next year. Forced tulips (tulips made to flower early, in the winter, in pots) often don't have enough energy left to re-bloom the next year. But it never hurts to try.

Also they have a very long dormancy period. When they are outside in the ground, the leaves come up, they flower, then they fade - both the flower and the leaves die back. Summer, fall, and winter - there is nothing to see above ground.
Reply:they have more than likely bloomed for this year and are just naturally dying. plant them out side and they will come back next year
Reply:Tulips are adopted to hot and dry climates of Iran (where I live) and turkey so perhaps you are overwatering them... ONLY water when the media becomes dry... After the flowers fade, remove them but keep the green foliage so they nourish the bulb for next year's bloom... Good luck but keep in mind that usually tulips best perform outdoors and people discard them after the winter blooming is passed...

So if you want to kepp'em for another year, try to fertilize them with a proper bulb fertilizer... Keep the foliage and after the plant naturally fades, keep the bulb in warm and dry potting medium...

Remember that tulips go dormant in the hot and dry soils of Turkey and Iran and this is another factor for them to produce better flowers... Very hard to achieve inside during cold winters isnt it?!... G'd luck...
Reply:that is wayyyyy too much water! when they start flowering they do not need a ton of water... maybe every week and a half ..also, tulips in soil are oneof the bulb flowers that just do not have the lasting look like for instance...daffodil, etc

  • What kind of tree has a trumpet flower that hangs up-side-down?

I recently went to Europe (Poland + French Rivera) my g/f and I saw these small trees with trumpet like flowers hanging down from them. The flowers were sweet smelling, white or yellow and were about the length of a bananna.

What kind of tree has a trumpet flower that hangs up-side-down?
I think that they were probably one of the varieties of Brugsmansia - known as Angel's Trumpets.

"Brugmansia is a genus of six species of flowering plants in the family Solanaceae, native to subtropical regions of South America, along the Andes from Colombia to northern Chile, and also in southeastern Brazil. They are known as Angel's Trumpets, sharing that name with the closely related genus Datura. The genus differs from Datura in being perennial and woody (Datura species are herbaceous), and in having pendulous (not erect) flowers.

Brugmansia are large shrubs or small trees, reaching heights of 3–11 m, with tan, slightly rough bark. The leaves are alternate, generally large, 10–30 cm long and 4–18 cm broad, with an entire or coarsely toothed margin, and are covered with fine hairs.

The name Angel's Trumpet refers to the large, very dramatic, pendulous trumpet-shaped flowers, 14–50 cm long and 10–35 cm across at the wide end. They are white, yellow, pink, orange or red, and have a delicate, attractive scent with light, lemony overtones, most noticeable in early evening."

Looking for info on the Lantana Plant (variety unknown)?

Got a Lantana today has numerous flowers that are basically tri-colored. (Pink, purple and a little yellow) Other flower tops specially around the outer edge of the plant are solid yellow in color. I'm wondering; (i) what ph they prefer; (ii) soil type; (light requirements for best flowering results and (iv) should I amend with phor. or nit., Also how draught resisent are they. Thanks tricky ricky

Looking for info on the Lantana Plant (variety unknown)?
Be careful what you plant..especially Lantana..if sterile well and good....don't want to upset the Neighbourhood..they are bullet-proof and demand ...attention after a while..will.keep the critters out when hedged, but rarely are...they can take off.
Reply:You really don't have to do much to lantana once planted except water it. It's quite drought resistant but needs to be watered a lot when its first planted. It's easy to maintain, esp. in south. It grows slow until August and then has a growth spurt and continues to bloom until frost wipes it out Report It
Reply:We grow all kinds of Lantanas in Calif. They plant the trailing purple along the freeways! As the above info states, they like full sun, average water and any kind of soil. They are frost tender. So, if it snows at your house you might have to replant every year. They can be invasive- popping up by seed here and there. Be forwarned. My favorite is "Radiation". It's red, orange and yellow and very bright. They bloom almost year round here.

    Good luck :-)
    Reply:Really nice link, Bethany.
Reply:I have six lantana plants. They love the heat and are very drought tolerant, but not invincible. I water mine once a day when the temp is over a hundred, about once every other day when the temp is over ninety, and just about never if the temp is eighty and under. It likes a somewhat sandy loam soil ph 7 or there about. If you arent getting blooms, give phosphorus. If the foliage looks too light colored use nitrogen. But if you just got the plant from a nursery, you shouldnt have to feed for six weeks or so. Check their feeding schedule. They really need full sun.

PS hummingbirds and butterflies love this plant
Reply:I think this is the cultivar we call 'confetti' in south Texas........lantana is probably the most widely plant used down here coming in every color, even trailing ones in purple.....it doesn't care what soil it is in, doesn't particularly like much fertilizer and blooms all but 2 or3 months out of the year....acts like a perennial down here and when the last frost is over, cut all the hardwood off.....don't know about colder than 8 zone. People use them everywhere because lantana doesn't care much about conditions except it doesn't like shade or too much water. I see them in window boxes, too.
Reply:Full sun, once established, drought resistant.

They will grow huge, if you grow them near a fence they will support themselves as a hedge.
Reply:You have a lot of great answers. Mine are next to the driveway, are never watered, are yellow and grow like weeds.

When do I harvest sweet potatoes?

I planted them in late May, early June. The vines are still healthy dark green, no yellow leaves, no flower buds and growing like crazy. By the way I live in Tallahassee, up in North Florida.

When do I harvest sweet potatoes?
Wait until the vines die. Dig up the potatoes. Lay out in full sun for several days. Turn them occasionally. If not sun cured, They will not be sweet. Store in a dry place. I like to use onion sacks and hang them up in a shed until time to eat them.

When the bloom dies do i cut the whole "head" off or just pull off the dead petals?
when the flower is spent, you may pull off the head or clip it off just below the base unless you notice that it is setting seeds. In that case wait until the seeds are mature then pick the seeds off and save to plant. Good luck.

Gardening question - help with iceberg rose please?

Hi, I bought a white iceberg rose about 4 months ago and it was going great. About a month ago the leaves and flowers turned yellow and fell off, now it is just sticks. The sticks are green so it is alive, but other people in our street have roses that are flowering now (I live in Western Australia, it is the start of winter here). Does anyone have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? I water the rose once every two days and it gets sunlight during the day. Thank you!

Gardening question - help with iceberg rose please?
Congratulations, you picked a GREAT rose!!! Iceberg can be counted on to be covered with flowers for at least 4 months!! (The American Rose Society ranks it as "8 or greater" on a scale of "1 to 10").

If it is the start of WINTER in Australia, then your Iceberg Rose is acting very normally. At least it is what I would expect for November or December in California!!! I have one Bush Iceberg and three Climbing Icebergs and they ALL lose their leaves in Winter!!

Look at this as an Opportunity!!! Because Iceberg is such a good grower, you really need to prune it good each winter when it goes into a dormant period (that is what is happening!!). It will make your rose more productive and attractive. Prune out dead, weak and old growth. Reduce plant size as necessary. I need to prune some of the heavy growth off the climbers or they would pull my fence over!!! LOL!!!

Make sure that you have mulch around your plant (not touching the cane) to keep the soil moist. How warm is it? Watering every two days may be too much. I don't water my roses at all in winter (they get by on the normal rainfall) and only twice a week (20 minutes each time on sprinklers) from spring to fall --unless we get a real hot spell!!.

    Good Luck!!
Reply:You are drowning it.Roses do not like to be overwatered.Even in your climate.Water only once a week.To save your rose now requires you to be cruel to be kind. Cut the rose right back. This means you cut back all the growth by half. The rose will rest during winter, and then start to sprout in the spring. When the summer comes, water thoroughly at night. and then only once a week.

Why do most people want to get rid of dandelions from their lawns?

I think dandelions are pretty flowers whether they're yellow or bloom into wishing puffs, but I know many others who buy numerous products to terminate them from their lawns. Why do some people want to get rid of them? What's the big deal?

Why do most people want to get rid of dandelions from their lawns?
People have some pretty strange ideas about the value of a perfect lawn. Also, if it is a play ground for children, the flowers will attract bees, and increase the chance of stings. I'm with you though. Not only are they pretty, but if you aren't using chemicals, the flowers and the greens are very good eating. In fact if people would learn to eat them instead of poisoning them dandelion greens you probably would have trouble finding them. Dandelion flowers also make a good wine.

In my opinion, the notion of a perfect lawn is a ploy of chemical companies to poison the world while seperating people from their hard earned money.
Reply:most people don't consider them flowers, they consider them weeds that want to choke out other real flowers and overtake the lawn.....
Reply:Dandelions are noxious weeds that rob moisture and nutrients from everything near them.

If you want them in your yard, fine, just don't live near me! I have REAL flowers that I prefer to WEEDS in my yard.

End of snooty tirade... but I hate dandelions.
Reply:i dunno i always liked dandelions.
Reply:yup, it looks pretty alright. But i think the main different between weeds and other flowers is that whether you can control them. which tends to be hard with dandelions since they seed everywhere they can.

If i want dandelions in a flower bed, i would like them to stay in that flower bed and not to invade other area as it will certainly do.

  • Photo frame centerpiece?

I am a photographer and would like to incorporate this into my wedding centerpiece. I want to have one or two pictures of me and my fiance throughout the time we have been together on each table and then have flower pedals sprinkled on the table too, but I don't know how to go about this. My wedding is in May and my colors are white, sapphire blue and yellow and my flowers are daisies and other wildflowers. Any suggestions on how I could make this vision of a centerpiece involving photo frames work?

    Photo frame centerpiece?
If you want a coordinated look I would go with matching silver frames on the tables or those sort of pearly frames with the tiny rhinestones on them. Verrry bridal looking.

For a more casual ecclectic look, check out flea markets and secondhand stores. Look for frames that are similar in perhaps size or style and spray paint them to match. White would look awesome with your wildflowers.

You might get some Baker's fern from the florist, lay out the leaves on the tabletop in a pleasing pattern and set the frames atop the fern leaves.

Also has gold trim around the dish and rim of creamer, and lid of sugar top. It is ceramic, has no chips, cracks or defects. The stamp is upside down wreath with hourglass in center, with hand painted Nippon around it. According to my Nippon books this is a fake stamp. I want to know what its worth, because I think I may have been ripped off and want to address this with the seller.

Hi, your shrub is Mahonia bealei, they are lovely and the scent is a knockout. Who cares about the correct spelling really, it's still the same plant isn't it?

The bee is most likely a bumble bee, there are quite a few different types in the UK. The weather has been so mild that it is not unusual for them to be around stocking up on some food, your Mahonia must be a gourmet bees delight.

  • I want to know about a specific purple and white wildflower.?

It is a single blossom per stem, with three lilac colored oval petals centered with white and spots of dark violet. Overlaying these three petals are three more tiny petals, dark violet and appearing curled. There are three short stamens in the center, each with yellow pollen. When the flowers curl up and die, they exude a beautiful deep purplish dye. What is this flower?

They get an average of 10 hours sun a day and the average temp 24 c day 16 c night .Plants seem healthy producing lots of new flowers.

    Yellow boy tomatoes?
    Yummy Yellers!! Lucky YOU!!

You're doing fine!! Don't fret!! As long as they aren't splotching and developing rot spots they sound perfectly normal.

    Science lesson time..... sorry....:

Unfortunately, they do take a bit longer than the red varieties because part of the ripening agent for the fruit itself is the red spectrum rays contained in the sun light. The yellow spectrum in sunlight is weaker and therefore the fruit ripens more slowly as there is less to absorb in the first place. O.K....no more Science lesson.... and don't worry....I'm not going to do the "geographic location differential"; it won't matter...they will still be slower than the red!

My Yellow Boys hung in there about 10 days longer than my red and then they all ripened at once!

The only yellow that I've grown that ripened at the same time as my red has been Lemon Boy. That's because the plant itself has an earlier maturation rate so it produces the blossoms and fruit earlier than even "early" varieties of the reds and pinks. It still takes longer than the red, technically, but since the fruit is set earlier, it gives the impression of maturing at the same pace.

Breath in, breath out, enjoy the reds for now and watch the yellows brighten up your garden as they turn into wonderful little balls of sunshine!!

    Good luck and Happy Gardening!!
Reply:I am a seasoned heirloom tomato grower.

Most yellow, heirloom varietals mature between 75 and 80 days. Just try to be patient and wait for your yellow boys to ripen.

Can you paint over paneling and if you can what would I use!!?

I bought a trailer and the person i bought it off of never did anything to it and it still has all the oringal stuff that came in it. Like the orange shag rug and the crazy wall paper that is bright yellow and crazy flower wall paper in the kitchen. What i paid for it was worth it and it came with a lot of new things to. I just need help!

Can you paint over paneling and if you can what would I use!!?
Yes, clean it with tsp,,, tri-sodiium phosphate...found at hardware stores. This will remove any grease or cigarette residue. then put a coat of pigmented shellac (bullseye, or zinnzer) as this will stick firmly to the panels, then top coat with the paint of your choiice. You can find this all in the paint department. of any store.
Reply:Yes you can paint over panelling. We did it at our former house. You need to put a coat of primer first or it won't stick as well, then you can use any indoor paint (Latex, usually) with any finish of your choice (flat, eggshell, satin, etc.)
Reply:The paint specialist at Lowe's or Home Depot will gladly help you decide on the right products for your needs.

Use Kilz or Zap as a primer. Both will prevent any grease or cigerette stains from bleeding thru the paint of your choice.
Reply:I,too, bought a trailer with the same problem. I got my advice from the paint department in Home Depot. First, wash really well all the paneling. Prime all the paneling before painting. The priming is very important. The paint job lasts for years. No peeling or problems.
Reply:Sure, you can paint over paneling without a problem. Here's how to do it right:

    1. Wash all of the walls with liquid TSP. You'll find some at your home hardware store or paint store. TSP removes all grease and grime (important, since your walls have been that way for ages). Don't use the powdered version, as it's harder to mix, is toxic (the liquid isn't) and you'll have an extra step because you have to rinse of the powdered version. Let the walls dry completely.

    2. Using an oil-based PRIMER, prime all of the walls you want to paint. I suggest Bull's Eye 1-2-3 (http://www.zinsser.com/product_detail.as... or Kilz (http://www.kilz.com/). I prefer Bull's Eye, as it dries within 2 hours. Don't skip this step or your paint will just scrape and nick and chip off the walls. Let it dry completely.

    3. Paint over your primer with your favorite paint and yes, you can use latex over oil-based PRIMER. You just can't use it over oil-based PAINT. And a latex primer may not stick to your paneling properly, causing your paint to chip, scrape and flake off the walls.

If you want to do the job right, you'll want to remove the wallpaper before priming. Yeah, you can prime and paint over wallpaper, but the job is always nicer without the paper. So, though you didn't ask, here's the absolute BEST way to get wallpaper off the walls:

    1. Get yourself a scoring tool at your home hardware store. It's inexpensive. It looks like a rotary pizza cutter with spikes. Roll this every which way all over your wallpaper. You don't have to press too hard so it's won't ruin your walls.

    2. Using a spray bottle (an old windex bottle works great), fill it with BLUE windshield washer liquid. Don't substitute the color. It has to be blue. Spray this all over the walls you've just scored. Wait 10 minutes. Don't skip the waiting or you'll have to use mega elbow grease.

    3. Spray the walls a second time. Wait 5 minutes. Again, don't skip the waiting. Take the time to put on some music and listen to your favorite tunes instead :)

    4. Easily peel and scrape the paper of the walls in huge pieces. It works like a charm every single time.

Some people here would tell you to use fabric softener. DON'T DO IT!!! Fabric although it may work, it is very slimy and hard to rinse off the walls. Don't believe me? Just go put some all over your hands and try to rinse it off...... You won't have to rinse the blue liquid off, as it will wash the walls at the same time.

Enjoy your new mobile home! Oh... and if it was me, that shag rug would be sooooooooo outta there!

Congratulations on your new home! Now get out there and make it yours. And feel free to email me if you need any other advice. I'll help whenever I can.
Reply:Gently sand with light weight sand paper. This should be and quick and easy job. Next, you will have to use a "primer" paint, which you can use a roller for. Next job, start painting.

Primer is needed so that the paint will stay and not buckle.

Ask about this at local hardware, or any home supply store.

  • Girls - Would you prefer to be surprised with flowers at work or in person?

Me and my GF attend and work at the same college... so I see her often. I got my first pay check and I want to do something special and give her flowers.

I plan to do the following arrangements -

6 white roses - showing that I care

5 yellow roses - signifying friendship

    1 red rose - love

Purpose is that I want her to know that I care of her and will be there for her; with the friendship and trust that we have, love will surely come.... This kind of summarizes what our relationship is currently like.

I want to write her about the meanings of the colors but I am not sure how to come about it... She is a simple girl and I dont know if I should just explain to her through a poem or directly tell her in writing.

What do you guys think about this arrangement and idea?

Would it be better to surprise with flowers sent to her at work or in person?

    Tomato plants???

I have a tomato plant that has been producing yellow flowers for about a month now. I have noticed some of the flowers are going away... I already have one tomato that has already started to grow. When should the other tomatoes start to grow? Isnt the tomato suppose to take the flowers place?

    Tomato plants???
Give them time....and be careful not to give them Too much Nitrogen(fertilizer) ....excess Nitrogen can cause Flower drop and make them not set....also remember that they do not need a lot of water, let them dry out completely before watering again

what's the best way to plant them--just OVER THE TOP of soil vs. into the soil? just sprinkle a little soil over them? The seeds are so very very small, almost like dust ...... just wanna make sure they bloom.

and should i put them in a starter box b4 putting them into the garden?

how tall do they get? and does it reallymake a diff if I space them out vs. all randomly next to one another?

    thx

Are Felicia flowers (like daisies really) REALLY EASY TO GROW?
I have never heard of a felicia flower, but daisies are wildflowers and will grow about anywhere. As for tiny seeds, if you plant them too close they will choke eachother out. I use the little peat pots until they come up then just pop them into the ground. The seed package should have most of the info on it. Good gardening.
Reply:You can prepare the area you want to grow them, sprinkle the seeds, then rake them in. If there are some that come in too close when they germinate, you can pick them out. Once established, they will spread themselves by seed and/or rooting from the stems that are close to the soil.

  • Phenotypic ration from crossing heterozygous females with yellow-green males based on the info. below?

A flowering plant has sex determining mechanism such that XY=male, XX= female. Winge has described a recessive allele on the X-chromosome that lethal when homozygous in female plants, but produces a yellow green uneven color when present in the single X-chromosome ot he the male plant. Normal males and females and heterozgous females are dark green.

Phenotypic ration from crossing heterozygous females with yellow-green males based on the info. below?
    Let's say:

XX = Normal, dark green female

XY = Normal, dark green male

X'X = Carrier, dark green female

    X'Y= Normal, yellow-green male

    X'X' = Lethal, female

    X'X x X'Y

    ___X'___X

    X'_X'X'__X'X

    Y_X'Y___XY

    25% Lethal, female

    25% Carrier, dark green female

    25% Normal, yellow-green male

    25% Normal, dark green male

I want to use these orange/yellow/pinkish flowers in my wedding bouquet. Thanks! :)

What kind of flower is on the cover of the book Eat Pray Love? I want to use them in my wedding.?
I believe it's an orchid of some sort...
Reply:Take a picture of the book cover or the book itself with you to the florist and they will be able to identify it for you. Sounds like they might be a lily of some sort and they are expecially beautiful in bouquets. Good Luck and have a wonderful day.
Reply:I couldn't find anything on what type they are... but I did find a site that describes it as 'Indonesian flower art'.... %26amp; another that just says 'flower petals', so it's possible that they used more than one type of flower...

I got a great one at my shower, She used flowers and ribbons but also added baby items combs brushes washcloths socks pacifiers and the like it really made it memerable and useful!
Reply:You can pick up inexpensive flowers at your local Dollar Tree store. For the butterflies, you can get a dozen at this site for a nominal cost. Pop the heads of the flowers to attach them to the cake and attach the butterflies to the flowers with a spot of hot glue. Leave the wires long so it looks like the butterflies are flying over the flowers.

    Yellow perennial?

I bought this perinnial last year already in bloom...it looks like a small bush with lots of yellow or purple flowers all over it ( I don't remember which color it is cuz I bought both)...anyway, when it died off for winter, it looked like a bunch of dry sticks sticking out of the ground. This year, something did come back in it's place but it is a very tall green plant that is just growing straight up and is now taller than the rose bush next to it...so my question is a.) does anyone know what kind of perennial this is? and b.) if so, do I need cut it down and/or what other kind of maitenence does it require?

    Yellow perennial?
take a cutting to the local nursery and ask for advice.

It may be dodder which is a pest. Have a look at the link and see if it looks the same.

I have this yellow moss like stuff growing in my flower bed does anybody know what it is?
I don't know this from personal experience because I'm a new gardener, but I just read somewhere - can't remember where - that it's most likely a harmless fungus that looks ugly but all you have to do is pick it out and throw it away. Try watering less, too much moisture may be encouraging its growth.
    Reply:Fungus kinda like mushrooms.
Reply:It could be a type of fungi. This is not all bad.
Reply:It is a variant of moss. You need to adjust the level of pH in your flower bed by adding some Powdered Lime.

Depending on the size of the area, a small bag (1 lb) should help you- use an old colander %26amp; shake @ 1 cup over the area about every 3 weeks; you should also invest in a simple pH Tester.

Orange, Pink & Yellow as wedding colors?

I am still having a hard time to make a final decision on wedding colors. I have came up with so many color combinations. My two favorite colors are pink %26amp; orange. So, I thought add a little yellow and its a possible color theme. Sunset colors... The bridesmaid dresses would be orange with pink, yellow, and orange flowers. Am I completely crazy? Many people think I am outta my mind....Please help?!! Here's the dresses that I've picked.

Orange, Pink %26amp; Yellow as wedding colors?
I think if done with the right shades it can be pretty. Sometimes you have to see everything put together before you know if you're going to like it or not. I can envision that and I think that would be fine. I like the accent of yellow to the pink/orange and I'd stick with that if I were you.

Edit: Your dresses are nice, but I didn't see the orange swatch to view it in?
Reply:Orange is a beautiful color for an outdoor wedding. I suggest orange, white and yellow. Click links below to see ideas.

Reply:The dress is beautiful! I am assuming that the color you picked was the Persimmon?

I think you are headed in the right direction with your color scheme, but you need to be careful about putting colors that are too delicate with this dress. This dress is bright, deep and dramatic in coloring - your flowers should have about the same depth of coloring as well. Instead of pink, go with fuschia. For the shade of yellow, it should be a deeper golden yellow - sort of like the color of a buttercup. Instead of orange, which will get lost in the back-drop of the dress, you should consider an accent color - I would personally consider a deep, true purple and plenty of greens. Go in to see a florist with this and some other suggestions, find out what flowers are in season then and ask the florist to put together some of the flower and/or colors so you can see what they look like together.
Reply:Wow those are bright colors. For a garden wedding I think bright is nice. I would suggest that you have the bridesmaid dresses pink instead of orange, they can use pink dresses again, orange is not that common for a dress. You really don't need yellow because pink and orange go so well together. Check TheKnot.com real weddings and refine the search to pink or orange, you will see some really cool cakes and bouquet pictures. Great color choice! Good Luck!
Reply:Great choice! I love those colors together. Just don't use yellow as a base color, only use as an accent!
Reply:I might prefer colors a bit more subdued, but in the end it's your wedding and you are the bride and it's your day, so go for it!

(The link didn't work for me either; I think it only works for your e-mail sign-in.)
Reply:I think it'll work great, go with what you AND your fiance like. Unless you are putting together colors that clash completely (magenta pink and Christmas red for instance) then don't worry what anyone else thinks. Your color selections will work well together.
Reply:You are not out of your mind, in fact those would be my colours as well! You will be able to get some really nice flowers to coordinate, I would go with lilies, but you are not crazy at all.
Reply:I think those are prefectly fine colours. Remember that it is your wedding. Don't get caught up in what everyone else thinks, you'll regret it in time to come. You could have gerbras as your flowers as they come in the colours you are after and are so bright and happy. I wasn't able to see the dresses that you had picked, so I am just going by what my ideas of pink and orange are. Hope that helps you and Congratulations and hope it all goes well for you.
Reply:Those are icecream colors. Take out the orange, take out the yellow and keep the pink, mix the pink with medium brown or a teal blue and silver. What I am saying is that you should have one strong dark color and one light. Also whatever you do, don't get print dresses for the bridesmaids...Pick one color you like and go with that. Even though it is an outside garden wedding, you can do bouquets with garden wild flowers. You also can have the girls wear floral wreaths.
Reply:I think the dresses are pretty; make sure the colors REALLY match. I mean there will be certain shades of those colors that would make it look gaudy. If you have the brides maids dresses in orange, then only use the pink and yellow as accents, not too much and maybe use your dress color as the 'canvas'. I mean, you could use ivory table cloths and chair covers with pink chair ties and pink and yellow flowers on the table.
Reply:I think it will look nice but I would choose a contrasting color as well in the bouquets. (purple?)

I just went to a wedding this past august and the girls were very colorful and they looked beautiful. The bride had liked the flowers my girls held and she did something similar. I had periwinkle dresses w/ hot pink, bright yellow roses, purple irises, and light blue delphinium. People thought I was crazy when I told them about it, but when they saw it everyone loved it. She also went bright with jewel tones. The girls wore teal (alfred angelo's is very pretty) and the girls held, yellow, hot pink, orange and purple roses) It was stunning because it was so bright and cheerful. The roses were very bright - not pastel.

You could do pink %26amp; orange lillies which are in bloom and stick in some yellow roses, or black eyed susans too which are yellowy orange with the dark centers (they are in bloom too). Gerbera daisies are also colorful.
Reply:That's ironic!! I'm sorry, but those are my LEAST favorite colors. Me, personally, would pick either green(fav), lavender, blue, or mahogany. I hope I didn't offend you!! Sorry!!
Reply:this can be very pretty. use the yellow roses for the bridesmaids with pink fill and ribbon, forget the orange in theirs due to the dress. Make your more orange with pink and yellow fills and pearls and ribbons. very pretty and great colors for that time of the year. Use a couple of shades of each color.
Reply:You know, I would get a whole bunch of sunset pictures and take them with you to the dress store and to anywhere that you might be looking at colors for the wedding. And I would pick three of those colors that occur in the sunset and stick with them and vary them only slightly. I think that anyone who questions your choices in colors need to look at some of the pictures that I found for you. Although I think I'd go with two brighter colors, like yellow and orange and balance it out with a deeper pink-purple.

I would also look at the color wheel to help you decide.
