Why are the leaves on my sunflowers turning white?

Not the yellow flowers, but the green leaves attached to the stem. Am I overwatering/ underwatering. They just had little blooms on the stem but the large 'heads' haven't bloomed yet.

Why are the leaves on my sunflowers turning white?
Hi,

The white leaves are an indication of a condition of "powdery mildew". It is a fungus condition that occurs on plants when the weather has been damp and the plants have remained wet too often.

I would cut down on the watering and put some fungus treatment, specifically aimed at powdery mildew on your plants.

Be forewarned, you may not be able to save the plants, but at least you know how to treat the problem on future plants.
