Need to keep the FR bedroom set for now. Fresh ideas for painting it? Tired of the yellow/gold look!?

3 of the pieces are high quality..the chest on chest, dresser/mirror, and ladies writing desk/vanity. Could replace the night stands, and want to upholster the headboard. Looking for a new look that takes away from the FRENCH PROVENCIAL style...something more metro..

Do not like the painted on flower look...Help!! and Thanks!

I like the idea of the flat-black also, but I would suggest using the flat black paint by rustoleum! Please note...it's a flat latex, not oil based. I used it for a furniture project, only because I was in a hurry and it was the only black paint they had in a one quart size that wasn't shiny! It goes on great, and leaves absolutely no brush marks. (Though certainly, a high-quality angled brush will make the job go smoother!) You could also add brushed chrome or glass knobs to the dresser. If the nightstands can be replaced, try something in a brush chrome and glass finish with a more streamlined contemporary style. Depending on the look you are going for....a bright pink velvet would be totally diva on the headboard, and a faux-zebra print rug would add total glam! You can actually buy a real cowhide on e-bay that has been painted with a zebra striping and looks like the real thing. OR...you could go a little more sophisticated by painting the furnishings in a dark metallic bronze...I can't remember the name of the paint, but finer paint stores that carry Benjamin Moore also carry the brand I am talking about. It isn't cheap looking like that bronze spray paint. It is much more rich and subtle. Then, upholster the headboard with a mushroom or taupe silk and add a flokati throw to the bed. Switch the night stands to gold and antique brass. That would make it look a little more metropolitan, as well. Good luck with your project!! Sounds like fun!!!
Reply:1st clean it well %26amp; lightly sand since its already a painted finish you won't need to prime which will save you a step .I've done a couple of pieces with BLACK FLAT ENAMEL , it gives that fresh updated finish you see in alot of magazines, now be sure to remove all knobs and handles and clean well then give a quick spray of silver spray paint for a clean lookor replace with more modern ones if the style suits ( p.s. behr paint from home depot has worked best for me)
Reply:wash it with dawn soap first! Then apply two coats of Kilz primer and use paint or stain of your choice.
