Memorial Day: What is tradition for acknowledging someone who lost a family member?

A woman in my ladies' Bible Study group lost a son in Iraq a couple of years ago. I thought we should acknowledge her on Memorial Day with a card and flowers (yellow flowers with yellow ribbon???) or something, but no one seems to have any idea what is customary. I called my local Hallmark store and they don't even HAVE Memorial Day cards for families of fallen soldiers. So, can someone tell me what is appropriate or traditional? Thanks.

Wow, this is the most honorable thing I have seen on Answers!!! I have never known any Memorial Cards to be commercially done, but you could get a floral arrangement to give to her for his marker. It is sad to me they do not have cards for that. My birthday is traditional Memorial Day, and growing up I was at a cemetary almost every year!
Reply:You could always make a care package to send to a soldier in Iraq and donate it in her name. Write it in a card what you did and what you included.
