For a beautiful view from my livng room window! What flowers should I plant in a 15' x 3' flower bed?

I like bright colors. My house is yellow w/ green trim. I have a huge tree in front so most of the day it is in the shade. Morning time sun only. I will be hanging humming bird feeders over the area as well. In zones 5 or 6.

Reply:Since you will be attracting hummingbirds, plant weigela, bee balm and other Monarda species, columbine (Aquilegia canadensis), and touch me not (Impatiens capensis). I believe they will all grow in partial shade. All of these plants have red/pink/orange flowers. The selected plants will provide color throughout the year.
Reply:my number one favorite flower to plant close to a door is Nicotiana. go out at about 7pm and smell it- wonderful scent. open your door and let it stream in the house. make sure to get one that says it has a scent- not all do. i grow mine from seed. flowers that look good with it are daylilies, cosmos, cone flower and another favorite gooseneck loosestrife (make sure your not getting the invasive one!)

all of these will do well with morning sun- in my experience anyway.

hope this helps.
Reply:Since it is shade I would reccomend Impatients. They come in several nice colors. I prefer the white ones, they show up better in the shade. You can also mix Hostas in with them. The hostas are perrenials so they will come back every year.
Reply:You could plant different hostas, ferns, heucheras, brunera, fern leaf bleeding hearts and standard bleeding hearts. For annuals, I'd plant inpatiens and begonias
Reply:lots of pansies w/ a lot of different colors that match the interior/or/exterior of ur home.... mix together with lots of colors that stand out.
Reply:cosmos, petunia,sunflower,zinea are grown up.
