In Greece and specially in Crete there are many herbs like that you describe.
1, Wild Chamomile : is used against sore stomach, irritable bowel syndrome, and as a gentle sleep aid. It can be taken as an herbal tea, two teaspoons of dried flower per cup of tea and boil it 2-3 min.
2.Ironwort (Sideritis syriaca): is a small plant commonly used in Greece (where it is known as "mountain tea") to make a sweet beverage.
3. A lind of Origanum, the Dictamnus (Dittany of Crete). Very aromatic herb. You prepared it as chamomile.
Are enough infos for you? Ti
Reply:it is called stamatohorto.we collect it from the mountains and its rare because it grows on sharp rocks that is difficult and dangerous to reach.it is expensive and very good for any kind of illness not only by drinking but by smelling as well.its taste is quite bitter.
Reply:Chamomile.
Reply:Could be
chamomile
Reply:This herb is not related to camomille. Its name is widely known as "tsai tou vounou" which means ''mountain tea'' due to the fact that it is found in most Greek mountains. It is also found in minor Asia and in Syria. Its scientific name is "sideritis syriaca" of the family "Labitae" ( in Greek ''Hilanthi''). It is not used to aid sleep, frequently it is used during the morning instead of coffee but it is excellent for treatment of cough (mixed with honey) and for stomach pains. Also it treats breath problems. It is widely found at Crete mountains (1000-2000m height) and its Cretan name is ''malotyra''.
Reply:I buy it Toronto all the time, if you have a Greek community in your city, most store will know it as Mountian tea, and is relatively inexpensive, and while it sound like chamomile, it is wild flower grown in the mountians around Greece
Reply:Sounds like Chamomile.
